Can I use the Ergobaby Omni Breeze with my newborn baby?
The Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier can be used with your newborn meeting the minimum weight and height requirements, in the front carry position facing you. Your newborn baby must weigh 7 lbs minimum (3.2 kg) and be at least 20 inches tall (50.8 cm).
Do I need to use Ergobaby Infant Insert with the Omni Breeze baby carrier?
The Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier has been specifically designed so you can carry your newborn baby (minimum 7 lbs / 3.2 kg) without the need of an infant insert. Easy to use, the Ergobaby Omni Breeze carrier's bucket seat gradually adjusts to your growing baby from newborn to toddler (7-45 lbs / 3.2-20 kg) to support your baby in an ergonomic M-shape position at all ages. Please refer to the label on the waistbelt or instructions to adjust the seat based on your baby's height.
How long can I use the Omni Breeze baby carrier in terms of age and weight of baby?
The Omni Breeze baby carrier is suitable from birth (minimum weight 7 lbs/3.2 kg and minimum height 20 in/50.8 cm) until 45 lbs/20.4 kg. This is typically from newborn up to around 4 years old.
How do I adjust the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier to my baby’s size?
The Ergobaby Omni Breeze carrier adapts to your growing baby in just one step. Adjust the seat using the velcro tabs on the waistbelt based on your baby's height: along the red lines for a baby between 20-24 inches / 50.8-61 cm (~0-3 months), along the yellow lines for a baby between 24-28 inches / 61-71 cm (~3-9 months), along the blue lines for a baby over 28 inches / 71 cm (~9 months +).
How many ways can I carry my baby in the Omni Breeze baby carrier?
The Omni Breeze baby carrier has four positions you can use to carry baby:
1. Front Carry Inward Facing
2. Front Carry Outward Facing
3. Back Carry
4. Hip Carry
Your baby's height and developmental milestones will determine the best mode to use.
• Front Carry Inward Facing – Min. 7lbs / 3.2kg and 20 in / 50.8 cm to Max. 45lbs / 20.4kg
• Front Carry Outward Facing- Baby has strong head and neck control and is taller than 25 in/63.5 cm (around 5-6 months). Baby’s chin must always clear the top of the panel. For comfortable babywearing for parent in the Facing Out position we recommend a min. weight of 14 lbs / 6.4 kg and max weight of 30 lbs / 13.6 kg
• Hip Carry - Baby can sit upright unassisted and a min. weight of 17.2 lbs / 7.8 kg and max weight of 45 lbs / 20.4 kg. This is usually around 6 months.
• Back Carry - Baby can sit upright unassisted and a min. weight of 17.2 lbs / 7.8 kg and max weight of 45 lbs / 20.4 kg. This is usually around 6 months.
Please refer to the instruction manual and instruction videos for each carry mode before using your Omni Breeze baby carrier and before attempting new positions.
When is baby ready to Face Out?
Every baby develops differently. You can start wearing your baby facing out once your baby demonstrates all the following: strong head and neck control, starts showing interest in the world around them and chin is above the carrier panel. This is usually around 5-6 months. Make sure to widen the seat to the widest setting (Blue Velcro setting) when baby is facing out: adjust the slider adjustments to the inner setting (toward the center of the carrier) for the Omni Breeze Carrier. In outward facing position, baby’s arms should always come out the sides of the carrier above the shoulder strap attachment point. NEVER out of the top edge of the carrier above the neck support. If baby gets sleepy or shows signs of overstimulation, turn baby around to face you. Therefore, we recommend the Facing Out position to be used for shorter durations of carrying only, so around 20 minutes. Baby should be removed completely from the carrier for repositioning.
When is baby ready for Hip Carry and Back Carry positions?
Every baby develops differently. You can start using the hip and back carry once your baby demonstrates strong head and neck control, can sit unassisted, and weighs 17.2 lbs minimum (7.8 kg). This is usually around 5-6 months.
Can I carry my newborn baby in the facing out position?
No. You should never carry your baby facing out until the following developmental milestones are met:
- Displays good head and neck control
- Chin clears the carrier panel when in good positioning
This is usually around 5-6 months old.
Can I breastfeed with the Omni Breeze baby carrier? How does that work?
Yes, as with all Ergobaby Carriers you can breastfeed while on the go. This can be done in the facing in carry positions. Just loosen the shoulder straps a bit and slightly lower baby to position on your breast. For safety, always stay seated when nursing in a carrier. Always stay vigilant while baby is nursing, and reposition after feeding, so baby’s face is not pressed against your body. Baby should be moved to recommended carrying position immediately after breastfeeding, remove slack from straps, and adjust.
How do I wear the Omni Breeze carrier waistbelt?
The Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier has a waistbelt with a lumbar support for added comfort. With a newborn baby, you should wear the waistbelt high and tight on your waist so baby is close enough to kiss. When baby gets older, you can keep the waistbelt higher or position it lower on your hips. It is up to you to see what is the most comfortable for you and your baby as she/he gets heavier. For smaller babies or parents with a long torso, we recommend wearing the waistbelt higher on your body. In the event of a C-section, wearing the waistbelt higher will likely be more comfortable for you. We recommend that you always wear the waistbelt in a snug fit as it allows an even better weight distribution on your hips for more comfort on your back and shoulders. The lumbar support should always be centered on your back in the front position, centered on the front for the back carry position, and supporting your back in the hip carry position. We recommend watching the instruction videos for step by step instructions.
Can the shoulder straps be crossed?
You can wear the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier with shoulder straps crossed on your back in the front carry position, with baby facing in or facing out. Wearing crossed straps or parallel straps is individual comfort preference. The crossed straps allow you to easily position the shoulder straps where it is most comfortable for you to wear them on your shoulders, which makes it a great feature for parents with narrower or wider shoulders. It is also appreciated by parents with less mobility as you don't need to reach in the back to fasten and tighten the chest strap, as all the buckling and fastening is done on the front.
How should I position the sliders on the Omni Breeze baby carrier?
• Sliders should be on the outward setting (towards the outer edge of the carrier) for Front Inward Facing, Hip and Back Carry modes.
• Sliders should be on the inward setting (toward the center of the carrier) for Front Outward facing mode only.
How do I make sure my baby’s head is supported with the Omni Breeze baby carrier?
Until your baby has demonstrated strong and consistent head and neck support, her/his head needs to be supported. Ensure the top edge of the carrier is at your baby's mid-ear level for proper support by positioning baby higher or lower on your body, when pulling the body of the carrier up around your baby's back. For a newborn baby, 6 weeks and under (minimum 7 lbs / 3.2 kg), fold the head and neck support on the inside, and button it to the lower buttons on the front from the side using the tabs for a tighter support. When baby starts to turn head from side to side and to hold his head for a few moments, you can fold the neck and head support on the outside and button it to the lower buttons. This usually happens around 7 weeks. For older babies, you can also button up the head and neck support for extra support when needed, such as when she/he is sleeping. When wearing your baby facing out (min 14 lbs/6.4 kg), make sure the head and neck support is folded down on the outside and buttoned to the lower buttons, and that your baby's chin is over the top edge of the carrier body. We recommend watching the instruction videos for step by step instructions.
How do I open the shoulder strap buckles on the Ergobaby Omni Breeze baby carrier?
At Ergobaby, safety is always a top priority. Given the construction of this particular carrier, we use double locking buckles to ensure a toddler baby could not accidently open the buckle while seated facing out in the carrier. Just squeeze the 2 sides like with a regular buckle, and push the central tab at the same time. Please note that shoulder strap buckles only need to be detach when using the in Hip position or using the straps in Criss-cross.
I find it hard to reach the chest strap buckle on my back to fasten or unbuckle it. What should I do?
Loosen the shoulder straps prior to putting shoulder straps on and fastening the chest buckle. This will give you sufficient slack in the straps to easily reach the Chest Strap buckle behind your head/neck, without having to reach down your back. It is critical to maintain enough tension on the shoulder straps to keep baby secure while attaching the Chest strap buckle.
You can also try using the Omni Breeze baby carrier with crisscross straps when in the front carry position with baby facing parent or facing out as there is no need to reach in the back to buckle/unbuckle the chest strap: all the fastening and tightening is done on the front.
Lastly, you can try the “T-shirt method” of putting on the carrier. This allows the chest clip to already be fastened before you put on the carrier. We recommend watching the instruction video on “T-Shirt Method” for step by step instructions.
How do I make sure my baby’s hips are in an ergonomic spread-squat position (M-Position) with thighs well supported and baby's back supported in a natural position in the Omni Breeze carrier?
After securing shoulder straps, always make sure baby's bum is evenly centered in the carrier. Reach inside the carrier and rotate baby's hips into a seated position, sinking baby's bum deep into the carrier to encourage a comfortable natural spine position (slightly rounded, C-shape). Then squat baby's legs to make sure baby's knees are positioned higher than baby's bum for a proper spread-squat position (M-Position). Finally, pull the seat sides (padded thigh area) out on either side ensuring the fabric/padded area under baby's thighs reach from knee to knee. We recommend watching the instruction videos for step by step instructions.
