When we first brainstormed the Day in the Dream series, we wanted to share a glimpse into the lives of everyday families and how babywearing helps them during different stages of baby’s development. When we found out about this queer couple’s amazing birth story (no really, go check it out, it’s mind-blowing, we’ll wait…), we knew that we wanted them to be a part of this series. This couple– Syd, an artist, model, and new (surprise!) mama, and August, a transman, actor, and new dad–found their purpose through parenthood and it’s so moving and beautiful. Finding themselves in an unexpected position as a new family with a special needs daughter, their love for each other and dedication to their daughter is awe-inspiring (to learn more and support their family transition, click here). This family’s wonder, joy, and positive energy is contagious, and we are so honored to share a glimpse into their life and a snapshot into a day in their dream.
New! I think as of now we are doing what any new parent does, fulfill all the baby’s needs and hold on to the ride. In the future, I am sure it will evolve. For now, we are sticking with what works for us and Beau.
Walking the dogs! Doing dishes! Painting! Wearing the baby is kind of a lifesaver when you need more hands. As Beau is a bit bigger now, hikes and family walks have been super fun and I think she prefers to be strapped to us rather than in a stroller.
Parenthood has completely changed us. A lot of parents will tell you that this momentous change will make you look at the world differently. Allow certain things, draw heavier boundaries on others. In a lot of ways it has pushed us to really think about the kind of people we want to be for Beau and our future kids.
A lot of different things. Right now home means moving. As funny as that sounds, we are in the midst of looking for a place where we all fit. Beau came out rather quickly and we have found ourselves with little space to grow. So moving is our first step to finding a new home. A new bubble to be a safe place.
Syd inspires me everyday with her art, and tells me I inspire her with my work ethic as someone who is constantly hustling. As my career hopefully grows, I hope I inspire her with my art one day too.
During the pandemic our life was pretty stagnant. August goes to work just about everyday. When he doesn’t we like to stay in our bubble. A big part of why we are moving is to shake up the days. Our favorite days are our beach days and park days. Beau loves the swing, and the sand.
We communicate. Even when it’s hard. That’s a big part of why we kind of floated into this new chapter. We try to remember that stress is not connected to each other. Also Beau has made being connected pretty easy. She brings Joy. She’s a tiny ray of light. Hard to not smile around that kid.
