Happy Juneteenth From Ergobaby

Just a few years ago, so many people in our nation would not have know the significance of Juneteenth, let alone that it was an actual holiday. But it’s actually the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

June 19th 1865, was the day word reached the enslaved in Galveston, Texas that their emancipation had been made formal, even though it had been so since January, 1, 1863.

“Today Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement. It is a day, a week, and in some areas, a month marked with celebrations, guest speakers, picnics and family gatherings. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing. It is a time for assessment, self-improvement and for planning the future. Its growing popularity signifies a level of maturity and dignity in America long over due. In cities across the country, people of all races, nationalities and religions are joining hands to truthfully acknowledge a period in our history that shaped and continues to influence our society today. Sensitized to the conditions and experiences of others, only then can we make significant and lasting improvements in our society.” (1)

Here at Ergobaby we are so proud and honored to have a diverse team that is dedicated to being curious learners. We’re honoring Juneteenth by supporting Black-owned businesses, attending local events, and spreading the word so that more people can understand the importance of this historic day!

We hope you enjoy this video of some of our friends singing a sweet lullaby to their little one.
