Introducing Our 20th Anniversary Carrier Design Winner

Ergobaby: Introduce me to you and your family!

I’m Evangeline, a 23-year-old mama to two boys (aged 2 and 4). We reside in Singapore, a sunny tropical island in Southeast Asia where it’s summer all year round.

How long have you been using Ergobaby?

I’ve been an avid user of my Ergobaby Omni 360 for the past 4 years, ever since my firstborn was a baby. It’s been a lifesaver for us anytime we’re out and about because my kids have never been able to nap in strollers but will always fall asleep once we pop them in the carrier. I must say the quality is impeccable having lasted 4 years, hundreds of naps and multiple washes. It still looks almost as good as new!

How do you fill your time? Do you work? Stay at home? What do you do for fun?

I’m currently a stay-at-home mum trying to savor all the time I have with my littles before I embark on my career in the near future. I feel privileged to have been able to spend every day with my children for the past 4 years observing all their milestones and interests. But at the same time, I’m looking forward to rediscovering my identity aside from being a mother.

What are the things that inspire you?

This may sound cliché, but my biggest inspiration must be my children. Before having my firstborn, I found it tough to find a true purpose in life. My kids inspire me to strive to do good in this world and be a better person to leave them with strong tools and values to be kind, empathetic individuals. No good deed is ever too small to matter.

When you saw this design competition come up, what inspired you to participate?

It was actually a spur-of-the-moment decision to send in my design for the contest. I chanced upon the giveaway post on social media and thought ‘why not?’ since I had free time while the kids were asleep. So, after deciding on the theme I wanted for my design, I sketched something out and hit the ‘submit’ button without really putting any thought into it.

What inspired your design?

My design is inspired by the quote from a poem by E.E Cummings that goes ‘you are my sun, my moon and all my stars’. I think all parents would agree that our kids really are our whole world, and they bring so much light to our lives. I thought the design fitting especially for a carrier because what better way to keep our babies safe and comforted than in a carrier close to our hearts.

silently if, out of not knowable
night’s utmost nothing, wanders a little guess
(only which is this world) more of my life does
not leap than with the mystery your smile

sings or if (spiraling as luminous
they climb oblivion)voices who are dreams,
less into heaven certainly earth swims
than each my deeper death becomes your kiss

losing through you what seemed myself; i find
selves unimaginably mine; beyond
sorrow’s own joys and hoping’s very fears

yours is the light by which my spirit’s born:
yours is the darkness of my soul’s return
–you are my sun, my moon, and all my stars

(- e.e cummings)

Tell me a little bit about how it makes you feel that we chose this design and parents will be wearing their babies in a carrier you played a part in!

Honestly, I was shocked to receive the email that I had won this contest. It’s the first contest I have ever taken part in, and I assumed that among the many designs everyone submitted internationally surely mine would just get lost in the mix and overlooked. I’m absolutely thrilled and honored that my design will be made available and that I get to be a part of a company with a meaningful mission, to equip parents with ergonomic products that encourage bonding.

Presenting our 20th Anniversary carrier!

An homage to our original and most successful prints.
