What to Pack in Your Diaper Bag for a Summer Day

As the weather gets warmer and the days get longer, we find ourselves making plans to soak up the sun and enjoy all of the fun that summer has to offer. As you prepare to make plans for fun summer outings with your little ones, you will want to take some time to intentionally pack your diaper bag. Take a look at our list of must-have summer essentials you’ll want to be sure to have in your diaper bag when on the go!

The Perfect Diaper Bag

Packing for a summer day starts with having the right kind of diaper bag. Make sure you have a bag that is comfortable to carry, has enough space for everything you need, and is sturdy and durable enough to stand the test of time. Bonus points if it comes with a diaper changing pad!

Diapers and Wipes

Start with the essentials. There is nothing worse than being out and about and realizing you’re down to two baby wipes, or that you used your last diaper yesterday and forgot to pack more. Make sure you have enough diapers in the right sizes and that you’re all set with wipes for when you inevitably need to make a quick change.

Stain Remover

Your baby spits up a bit or you get some applesauce on your shorts. There are so many different ways that you or your baby could get a little, or big stain. So come prepared! We love this stain remover pen — a safe option for both mom and baby. Trust us, the first time you find yourself facing a stain while out, you will be so glad you have this!

Sunscreen

No one wants to get home at the end of the day and realize they have a sunburn coming on. Stow some sunscreen in your diaper bag for both you and your baby so that you can stay on top of sun protection. Go the extra mile by throwing in some lip balm to further protect yourself from the sun.

Baby Carrier

You’ll definitely want to be sure to bring along your baby carrier for your summer outings. While your little one may tire quickly of being in a car seat, strapping them into a comfortable baby carrier is the perfect way to lengthen your outing and keep everyone happy. The Omni Breeze comes with a privacy hood, effectively protecting them from the sun and it’s made of breathable material, allowing you to avoid getting too sweaty while babywearing.

Bottles and Pumping Supplies

If your little one is currently bottle feeding, you will definitely want to make sure you have everything you need to feed them while on the go. Even if you’re not planning on being out during their regular feeding time, you should be prepared. If you’re pumping, be sure to bring along all your supplies.

Snacks

Depending on what stage your baby is in, snack types and amounts will vary. Whatever they’re currently munching on, whether it’s cereal, bananas, or fruit snacks, be sure to bring some along for your outing to tide them over if they start to fuss. Keep them all contained in a snack container to avoid any unwanted spills or messes.

Hand Sanitizer

Warm weather typically brings with it larger crowds and more people touching commonly used items, such as door handles. Bring along a travel-sized container of hand sanitizer and use it frequently for yourself and your little one. You can never be too careful when it comes to protecting your baby from germs!

Change of Clothes

You never know when you’ll find yourself in need of a change of clothes for your baby while out and about. Whether it’s a blowout or some kind of major spill, having a clean change of clothes will provide some serious peace of mind! You’ll want to check every now and then to make sure your spare outfit is the right size. Especially with younger babies growing into new sizes so frequently. You don’t want to find yourself with a 9 month old baby and a size 3-6 month outfit.

Plastic Bags/Zipper Pouches

Speaking of dirty clothes, consider keeping a plastic grocery bag in your diaper bag for those emergency moments. Whether you’re at a loss of where to dispose of a dirty diaper or you have a handful of dirty clothes, creating an easy temporary spot is always a good idea.

Toys and Books

Having some small toys and sturdy books can prove to be serious lifesavers if you find yourself in a bind with a fussy baby. Whether you get caught up in a long line at the grocery store or you run into a bit of traffic, being able to pass them a colorful book or small toy can be just the thing to tide them over.

Mom Essentials

Obviously, you want to make sure you have everything you need to keep your baby comfortable and happy while out and about, but you’ll also want to take some time to make sure you have all of the essentials for YOU! Make sure to pack your sunglasses, water bottle, portable phone charger, and a protein bar. Take care of yourself so that you can take care of your baby.

So as you get ready for your summertime activities, be sure to take some time to pack your diaper bag and be prepared for whatever may come your way! Taking your baby out can be such an exciting adventure, just make sure you have everything you need to keep them happy and thriving during your outing.
