This week we are going to take a look at the 2
nd key to finding your best post-baby body, cooking healthy with your baby in the Ergo. Eating healthy is a MUST for new moms! You need to fuel your body with good foods so that you have the energy you need to care for your family (and yourself). Here are 3 tips for how to master this key to finding your best post baby body:
Focus on WHAT you are eating rather than counting calories. When you are newly post-partum, it’s not the best time to start a strict diet. Instead, focus on eating whole, unprocessed foods. My rule is if I can’t pronounce one of the ingredients, I don’t eat it. I am sure you have heard it before, but sticking to fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean meats is the best way to eat. This is what will help you to lose the baby weight the right way. And just because you are eating clean doesn’t mean your diet has to be plain and boring. There are TONS of great recipes out there that have wholesome ingredients and are full of flavor. If you want to some ideas, check out the
nutrition section of the Tailored Fitness blog or our

If you are breastfeeding, make sure to eat at least 1500 calories. Studies show that when your total calories drop below 1500 per day, your milk supply can drop. So if you are breastfeeding, make sure you are eating enough to maintain your supply. Now, there is a big difference in 1500 calories of junk food and 1500 calories of health food, so you should still make good choices. Take advantage of the extra calories your body is burning while breastfeeding. If you fill up on good, healthy foods, you can lose weight and still maintain your supply.
Wear your baby while you cook. Unfortunately, dinner time = fussy time for many babies, so managing to put together a healthy meal for your family can feel daunting. That’s where
Ergo saves the day! Strap that baby into
the carrier and make your meal while they are close to you. If they are eating solids, let them taste the foods and use it as a teaching opportunity to tell them about why you are choosing those foods.
Never forget that you are setting a POWERFUL example for your children in what you eat and the meals you feed your family. Set them up for success in the years to come by teaching them what it means to eat healthy. To help you get started, here’s video where you’ll learn how to make a delicious, protein filled smoothie that will help your family start the day out right!
Power up Smoothie
Makes 1 serving, double or triple the recipe to serve more.
Ingredients
1 banana
2 T peanut butter (make sure to get the kind where the only ingredient is peanuts)
2 T Egg White Protein Power (I love this one)
1 T Ground Flax Seed
¾ c Almond Milk (unsweetened)
Ice
Directions
Put all the ingredients in the blender and mix thoroughly. Enjoy a delicious smoothie that will give you energy for your day! This smoothie is gluten free and dairy free, so if you are like me and have to cut out dairy while breastfeeding, you can enjoy this smoothie without a worry!
