Matt and Julia both live out their passions everyday as a professional skateboarder and hairdresser, all while hoping to inspire their son, Jackson. Creating adventures and love everyday, the Bennetts call home anyplace they are together. Tell us about your family.
“There are three of us in the Bennett family. Jackson is our first and only child. He is approaching 12 months and is a happy boy. His hobbies include eating and dancing! Matthew is the father of our family. He provides for us by living out his childhood dream as a professional skateboarder. I (Julia) am the mother of our new family and I am a working mama. I am a hairstylist three days out of the week and enjoy still being able to do what I’m passionate about.”

What does a typical day in your family look like?
“When we are all home it’s usually days filled with errands to run. But we make it fun. It usually starts with breakfast at one of our favorite long beach spots.”

How does your family stay connected?
“I am going to take this literally and say co-sleeping. We are never too far from each other!”

Tell us about your happy place or What brings you joy?
“I think turning on some music and watching Jackson dance and discover what makes him groove is a pretty definite happy place for us.”

What kind of memories do you want to create for your child?
“I want him to remember us (his parents) happy. Just having silly moments together. Creating fun homemade games and not taking anything too seriously. That’s what I remember from my childhood and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Where do you call home? Or What does home mean for your family?
“Home is just wherever it’s cozy! Home is where we three are together. Where a candle is lit and a good song is on. ”

How do you make a home for your family?
“I just want to make sure everyone is comfortable and clean. Fed and happy. ”

If you or your partner works, how does your work affect or inspire your family? Or the other way around?
“Matt and I are lucky enough to live out our dreams. We turned our hobbies into careers. That makes us genuinely happy people and we are grateful for that blessing. Hopefully Our examples will motivate Jackson to do the same. Whatever that may be! ”

How do you stay connected when away from home?
“Matt travels a lot during half of the year. Thank goodness for smart phones to keep us connected through this crazy virtual reality world we are living in. ”

Describe your parenting style.
“Go with the flow. Seriously- there is no other way or you’ll drive yourself crazy. Things don’t often go as plan. So have a plan b. And sometimes plan c. And be okay with having to use them!”

Christina is a mama, conservationist, DIY’er, vintage fanatic, dog lover and the Ergobaby director of community.
