Day in the Dream: Baby Koa

When we first brainstormed the Day in the Dream series, we wanted to share a glimpse into the lives of everyday families and how babywearing helps them during different stages of baby’s development.  We were so honored and thrilled that Monroe and Samy were willing to open their home to us.  Monroe, a new mama, a photographer herself, and co-founder of GRLSWIRL, a women-founded skate collective; and Samy, a new papa, a director, and founder of Stadium, embody modern parenthood, taking baby along for the ride. Here’s a glimpse into their life and a snapshot into a day in their dream.

Describe your parenting style.

Samy and I find it important for Koa to be very accustomed to other people, so since day one we’ve had all our friends hold him and hang out with him. We find it important for our lives to not adjust because we had a baby, so we just include Koa into everything we do. But the most important is that he’s surrounded by so much love. What a lucky baby.

How has parenthood changed you?

I never thought I would be a good parent. I actually didn’t think I would have kids. I grew up playing video games and playing sports, not playing with dolls. I also felt like I could never connect to kids, so I just told myself that it wasn’t for me. But ever since having Koa I have discovered how being a parent is my favorite thing in the world. I now want like 5 kids! Haha. I’ve become more patient, I’m witnessing the world through a 2-month-old’s eyes and it’s so cool! He’s also just the coolest kid and makes parenting very easy.

How does your family stay connected?

I FaceTime my parents every day! My parents are actually moving to la to be closer to Koa! And Samy’s parents live in Woodland Hills so they come over twice a week. It’s amazing how kids bring families together.
