Introducing Why Babywear: The Babywearing Book
Ergobaby is thrilled to announce the launch of our latest collaborative project, "Why Babywear? Benefits for You and Your Baby” —a comprehensive guide that’s been over a decade in the making! Written in collaboration with esteemed parenting experts, Dr. Bill and Martha Sears, this book encapsulates our shared commitment to nurturing close, loving parent-child relationships through the practice of babywearing.
The Inspiration Behind "Why Babywear?"
For over two decades, Ergobaby has been at the forefront of developing baby carriers that are not only ergonomic but also foster intimacy and and unbreakable bond between parents and their children. Back in 2016, we called in top experts in the fields of babywearing, oxytocin, skin-to-skin, hip health, and baby health for a weekend of round-table discussions in Southern California. These experts presented their research and from there, this book was born.
Dr. Bill and Martha Sears are pioneers in attachment parenting and they have championed the benefits of close contact parenting methods, which align perfectly with our philosophy at Ergobaby. We’re so honored to have them as major contributors to this book!

Why Parents Need This Book
Dr. Bill and Martha Sears have long advocated for the principles of attachment theory, which suggests that a strong emotional bond with parents during childhood forms the foundation for a healthy, independent adulthood. "Why Babywear?" translates these theories into practical, actionable advice that parents can immediately apply, empowering them to make informed choices about their babywearing practices.
Exclusive Insights from Dr. Bill and Martha Sears
In "Why Babywear?", Dr. Sears shares, "Babywearing is not just a logistical tool for parental convenience; it is a parenting strategy that satisfies a baby's primal need for touch, while promoting cognitive and emotional development." These insights are backed by decades of research and firsthand experiences from a trusted pediatrician who has seen the profound effects of babywearing on child development.
This book will empower and encourage you with really simple and practical tools to make your lives with baby easier.
