With spring springing up all around us I'm itching to take my kids out to explore the city. The cherry blossoms blooming, the fountains spouting water after a dormant winter, and the sunshine streaming down are beckoning to us after months of being mostly indoors.
In order to tackle our beloved concrete jungle here is what I'll need:
Ergobaby Carrier: Navigating busy streets, public transportation, and small cafes is no place for a stroller. Keeping baby close, safe, and out of trouble while still looking great is possible with a great carrier
Large Bag: I like something I can sling over my shoulder that will fit diaper changing supplies, a few snacks, a water bottle and my wallet.
Sunglasses: To keep the glare away and complete the look.

Lunchtime.Sweet baby Apple was sound asleep and my two "big" kids were eating at the table. I was sitting between them and after a few moments Ainsleigh creeped over and climbed up on my lap. She was facing towards me and grabbed my cheeks, looked me straight in the eyes and smiled....over and over again in between kisses on my cheeks.Something about the way the sun was shining behind her, something about those sweet dimples that she has.Something about the way her tiny fingers were stroking my hair and clinging to me.Something about the way she clenches on when she thinks I am about to get up.She, too, wants it to last.I desperately wanted to jump up and grab my camera but I didn't. I held her tight. Soaked it in. And am doing the best job that I can right now to repaint it as a memory.

Now that our third baby, Franky, is eight months old, it's very clear to us which baby products we need, and which we could have avoided. Of course, every baby is different, but this list contains all of our favorite baby must-haves. We are a co-sleeping, breastfeeding, baby-lead weaning family, so you may need other necessities (like a crib and bottles- typically the two things you think of when you hear the words "baby items"). Spring has Sprung! The warm weather is upon us and that means its time to get the babies in the Ergo and outside to enjoy the weather. As a doula, I often get asked if I only work with women that have postpartum depression. To the contrary, postpartum doulas have a positive effect that has been proven to reduce the incidence of postpartum depression. The word doula is usually associated with birthing women, however, there are also postpartum doulas that assist families after the birth. After having a baby, many women feel quite vulnerable and unsure of their new role as a mother. Postpartum doulas are there to emotionally support the new mother and their family. They offer a non-judgemental ear and provide a safe environment for the family to express doubt, joy, frustration and concerns about the newborn. In addition to providing emotional support, postpartum doulas will educate the new family on basic topics such as feeding, bathing and sleeping. It seems that in many Western societies, one of the first things people do when they find out they’re expecting is to look at strollers, baby carriers, bassinets, anything that will hold your child for you. Yet, most people don’t realize that there is another way to keep your little ones with you, a way that is far superior in many regards and will also be much cheaper: babywearing. Historically, and in many other cultures today, strollers and other baby carrying gadgets are simply not used. Babies are wrapped and strapped to their caregiver to get around when their own two legs can’t take them. Though some might argue that there’s no difference, or that our modern inventions are more convenient, I would like to argue that there are actually good reasons to wear your baby. I can’t believe we are entering the second month of 2013 already! I am among the many people who welcomed the new year by re-examining their hopes and goals for the upcoming year - and just like so many others - that included my health and fitness. I’m an urban mama and that means that I travel on foot a lot. I walk everyday! I take the kids to music class, the library, the playground and the grocery store. Still, all that walking isn’t always getting my heartrate up. What we do usually resembles more of a leisurely stroll than a brisk powerwalk (unless we are running to catch the bus, then it’s a comical sprint). So, at the beginning of this year I decided that I was going to try to make all those steps count by trying to take them a little more quickly and deliberately. I’m hoping this makes them a better workout that naturally fits into my life - and maybe I’ll even end up with some extra minutes for myself since I’m shaving time off my commute. Now, nearly a
